Podcast #41: How to Get Started Speaking (And get Paid)

Have you ever said to yourself, “I’ve always wanted to do speaking engagements. I think it would be just so cool to be up on a stage spreading the word and helping people in that way, but I have no idea where to start?”

Well, Laura Louis is here to tell us exactly how…

Laura started out in private practice, it wasn’t until her practice was completely full and she couldn’t take anymore clients that she began to think about how to continue to grow her practice. After seeing other therapists speaking on stage and figuring out the steps to get there (including how to monetize), she has now done over 200 speaking engagements and teaches other therapists how to get started.

Speaking Engagements are not only a powerful practice building tool but they can also be an additional stream of revenue. With a well crafted presentation and a whole system built around it, speaking engagements can open up a whole new world for psychotherapists.

In this episode, you’ll learn how to:

  • Use speaking engagements to grow your Private Practice
  • Use “what light’s you up” to find a topic you’re passionate about, and how to balance your presentation topic with finding potential audiences.
  • Get paid for speaking engagements, and what you need to do before that.
  • Figure out your conversion rate after the speaking engagement and what factors this will depend on.
  • Figuring out your call to action, even if “selling” your service is not an option.
  • Find Entry Level Speaking Engagements, set your fee and set your presentation length
